Arppa, Sepikka
Event Introduction
After opening for Vesta’s Huvila concert last summer and thrilling the entire tent, Arppa has been the most wanted Finnish artist for Huvila 2023. The charismatic and warmly charming Arppa performed at the Independence Day Reception pre-party and is on the rise from indie fame to the entire nation’s new favourite artist.
Arppa’s music is timeless and has lyrics like images in motion – the insightful, sincere and perceptively described ambience takes the audience all the way from Kokkola’s Ykspihlaja neighbourhood via night-time Helsinki to a July 1958 speakeasy with Laila Kinnunen.
Recording for the famed Johanna Kustannus label, Arppa’s popularity is also based on active touring. The natural ease and genuine joy with which Arppa’s band plays are sure to get the audience going. The band includes musicians Ville-Veikko Airaniemi, Eero Seppä and Okko Saastamoinen.
The evening’s opening act is the praised Sepikka, the inspiring alias and band of singer-songwriter Joni Seppänen. Sepikka’s sound is grand but tender, the music seasons timeless Finnish song-writing tradition with indie pop aesthetics, gliding across foggy fields towards urban parks. Sepikka’s 2021 debut album “En kestä kylmää lailla ahvenen” was the Indie Awards album of the year. The same year, Sepikka was named the new artist of the year by Soundi magazine and received two Emma nominations, and the album was also nominated for the esteemed Nordic Music Prize.
