Baltic Sea Day concert

Event Introduction

Wagner interpreted by the best

The night will be full of international stardust, when Nina Stemme steps onto the stage with HPO at the Baltic Sea Day concert organised by Helsinki Festival and the John Nurminen Foundation. The Swedish Stemme is one of the biggest stars in classical music at the moment. She has been called the best Richard Wagner soprano in the world – ‘without exaggeration, the heir to Birgit Nilsson’ as the night’s conductor Susanna Mälkki put it. Stemme regularly performs at the world’s foremost opera houses, such as the Bavarian State Opera and New York Metropolitan Opera. There will be Wagner this time, too – creating an Event with a capital E.

Benjamin Britten: Dawn (from Four Sea interludes from Peter Grimes)
Felix Mendelssohn: Hebridit, overture
Richard Wagner / Felix Mottl: Wesendonck Lieder
Jean Sibelius: Myrsky, suite No. 2
Richard Wagner: Prelude und Liebestod aus Tristan und Isolde
