Event Introduction

A guided walking tour will depart from Kasarmitori Square (in the case of rain, a presentation will be given instead at the M. A. Castrén Association premises, Pohjoinen Makasiinikatu 7 A 2, 00130 Helsinki). Matias Aleksanteri Castrén, a researcher of Uralic languages and pioneer of field trips, was an influential figure in the early 19th century and made several field trips to explore the origins of the Finnish people. Following Castrén’s footsteps in Helsinki, from Kaartinkaupunki to Kruununhaka, will take just over an hour – come and take part in a field trip!
