Punk nests

Event Introduction

Punk nests

When punk landed in Finland in the 1970s, it spread everywhere, both in cities and in small towns, eventually reaching even the most remote villages. In the cities, punk often gathered in different places, where thanks to the do-it-yourself ethos that symbiotically belongs to punk, it got stronger and found different forms of performance and realization.

These mite nests were e.g. Kill City and Lepakkouola in Helsinki, Safety Pins Fan Club in Tampere, A-panimo in Turku and UFO in Kuopio. The Punk Museum’s Punkpesät exhibition presents and tells about these regionally significant cradles of punk, places where young people found their ilk and where the most important thing was the desire to do, not whether one could or could get it.
