Starring the potato: the Night of the Arts in the Media Museum and Archives Merkki

Event Introduction

Join the museum’s workshop where images and text will be printed on paper using both metal plates and humble potatoes. Merkki’s exhibitions will be open until 20:00 on the night. 

16:00–19:00: Potato art exhibition. Join the workshop to create works using stamps made of potatoes, and watercolours. The works created during the event will be hung on the exhibition wall! Non-stop, suitable for participants of all ages. 

16:00: Announcement of the winner of the Stadissa tehty (‘Made in Helsinki’) exhibition in the printing cellar.

16:30: A guided tour of Merkki and its permanent exhibition.

17:00–19:00: Demonstration of historical printing methods. Come and print summer images using old printing presses and metal plates.

    The museum has two entrances at Ludviginkatu 2-4. One of the entrances is accessible and will be opened by request. A new accessible entrance will be opened on the Korkeavuorenkatu side later in 2024.

    The museum has two floors. For wheelchair users, there is an elevator providing access to the printing cellar.

    The information desk, the coat racks as well as the toilets are situated in the first floor. There are three unisex toilets, and one of them is accessible.

    Guide or assistance dogs (and other dogs as well) are warmly welcome to assist their owner during the visit.

    Please note that the museum offers Sensory-Friendly Hours on the last Tuesday of each month at 3-5 pm.
