EXHIBITION: The Art of Small 2026

Event Introduction

Many people are curious about contemporary art but don’t always know where to begin. The Art of Small responds by bringing together artists, audiences, and both first-time and seasoned collectors in an intimate setting, presenting a carefully curated selection of affordable contemporary artworks alongside participatory events and educational programmes designed to make engaging with Finnish contemporary art more approachable.

The exhibition features approximately 60 artworks by emerging, mid-career as well as established artists living and working in Finland, offering visitors the opportunity to discover new artistic voices while learning about contemporary art collecting and the diversity of Finnish contemporary art ecosystem.

“Together with our curator Ada Pääskysaari (Penthouse Kollektiivi), we are bringing emerging, mid-career, and established artists into conversation with one another, creating opportunities for audiences to discover artists they might not otherwise encounter and helping visibility flow across different career stages”, says Paloma Bautista Sánchez, Project Manager of The Art of Small and representative of Catalysti.

Throughout The Art of Small, visitors are invited to take part in participatory performances that explore alternative ways of connecting with contemporary art. During the Night of the Arts, Myymälä2 will be open until 8:00pm and host Emotion Cookies Tasting by Kitchen Testimonies, inviting audiences to experience art through taste and conversation.

The Art of Small is organised by Catalysti – Association of Transcultural Artists in collaboration with Kulttuuriosuuskunta TIcAS, with the support of the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taiteen edistämiskeskus, Taike).
