Hakijat (“The Applicants”)
Event Introduction
Hakijat (“The Applicants”) by Jussi Ratilainen is a photo exhibition about the people behind the unemployment statistics. Alongside their portraits, six job seekers of different ages and backgrounds share in their own words their experiences of job hunting, unemployment, and life amid the changing job market.
All the portraits in the exhibition were taken at Helsinki Central Station. Now they return to the very same location—into the middle of the crowd, where hundreds of thousands of people pass by every day on their way to and from work.
Hakijat invites you to pause for a moment and see the human being behind the title of a job seeker.
