Kaivopuisto of Culture and High Society – Night of the Arts Walking Tour

Come and discover the nearly 200-year cultural history of perhaps Helsinki’s most famous park.
Kaivopuisto is one of the capital’s most prestigious park areas and a hub for summer social life, where style-conscious city dwellers have strolled for almost two centuries.
The park was established in the 1830s to boost tourism to Helsinki, with its main attractions being an international-standard spa, the Kaivohuone restaurant, and its seaside setting. The tour will also recall the Kaivopuisto General Exhibition of summer 1876, which presented the most significant achievements of Finnish art and industry and was one of the most notable cultural events of its time.
However, Kaivopuisto has also been the locals’ own park—a stage for sing-alongs, concerts, Shrove Tuesday celebrations, and summer walks.
So dress up in your best (if you wish) and come flâneur with us into the August evening!
The approximately two-hour tour starts at 6:00 PM from the historic Salus Building, which was completed in 1929 as a hospital and currently serves as a headquarters for foundations and associations. The tour guide is Docent Mikko-Olavi Seppälä, an expert in the history of Kaivopuisto. The tour language is Finnish.
The tour is free of charge, but advance registration is mandatory. The tour is limited to 30 participants.
