KALEVALA 200 – UUSI KUVITUS
Event Introduction
Many artists have illustrated the Kalevala for nearly two centuries. The best-known are Akseli Gallen-Kallela’s beloved Kalevala illustrations, created over a hundred years ago.
Now, as the 200th anniversary of the Kalevala approaches, I want to create my own interpretation. Not because earlier illustrations have grown outdated, but because the Kalevala only stays alive if it continues to be read, sung, retold, and illustrated time and again.
The first illustrations and sculptures will be on display during Helsinki’s Night of the Arts at Munkkiniemen Taidelainaamo ja Kehys. Welcome to drop by and explore!
