Opening of the Ankallisgalleria exhibition
Event Introduction
The brightest gems of Duckburg’s fine art are now at Merkki – Media Museum och Archives! The Ankallisgalleria pop-up exhibition opens to the public on the Night of the Arts and runs until Sunday, August 23. The art of Finland and Duckburg bear a striking resemblance to one another: you can spot the similarities during chat sessions with our discussion guide.
The programme also features cat and duck drawing, a traditional printing history demonstration, and a walking tour for Duck fans.

How do the classics of Finnish art transform into Duckburg landscapes? Katariina Salmijärvi, a guide from the National Gallery, leads an artistic chat session for Duck fans.
3:00 PM–5:00 PM Paws and Webbed Feet drawing table
Today, we draw strictly cats and ducks, as Puss in Boots meets Duckburg at the museum. Create your own drawing at the all-ages drawing table. You can also grab a clipboard and sketch around the museum.
5:00 PM–7:00 PM Printing history demonstration in the Print Basement
Come and print summery images using vintage printing presses and metallic photo plates. Images of jumping frogs, for example, have been selected from Merkki’s working collection to be printed during the Night of the Arts. You can take your handmade print home with you.
5:00 PM–7:30 PM Donald Duck walking tour
Donald Duck enthusiast Pekka Luokkala leads walkers to the locations featured in Don Rosa’s legendary Duck comic The Quest for Kalevala. The roughly 4-kilometer tour starts at 5:00 PM from Merkki’s lobby and ends at the same place by 7:30 PM. The walk proceeds at a leisurely pace with several stops.

On the Night of the Arts, the annual Stadissa tehty (“Made in Stadi”) exhibition opens in the museum’s Print Basement, featuring project works created during 2025–2026 by media and visual expression students from Stadi Vocational and Adult College (Stadin AO).

The accessible entrance to the museum is on the Korkeavuorenkatu side. This door is equipped with a ramp, a handrail, and an automatic door opener. The door is located on a gentle slope. The museum's main entrance is on Ludviginkatu, which has several steps and no handrail.
The museum space is accessible for people with reduced mobility. Exhibitions are spread across two floors: the 1st floor and the Print Basement (Painokellari). The Print Basement is located on the -1 level, accessible via spiral stairs as well as an accessible elevator.
The information desk, coat racks, and toilets are located on the 1st floor. All toilets in the museum are gender-neutral. One of the three toilets is accessible.
Our staff is happy to assist visually impaired visitors. Guide dogs and assistance dogs (as well as other dogs) are welcome in the museum.
