The unknown suburb on the big screen
Event Introduction
The Helsinki City Museum will present unique documentaries about Helsinki’s suburbs on the Night of the Arts. Before the screening of the Black Hole Mama documentary, film director Heidi Piiroinen will give a talk about the making of the film. The evening will culminate in short documentaries and commercials screened on an analogue film projector in the Falkman courtyard with an old-timey open-air theatre atmosphere. El Fant Cafe & Bar will sell refreshments at the event, and the public will also have the opportunity to visit the projection room.
The museum exhibitions will be open until 11 pm on the Night of the Arts. Please note that the Children’s Town will close at 7 pm as usual.

5–7 pm Clips from the suburbs (4A)
7–8 pm Heidi Piiroinen: Black Hole Mama (4A)
8:45–10:45 pm Short documentaries and commercials on an old-fashioned 35 mm analogue projector (Falkman courtyard)
Technical implementation of the film screening in the Falkman Courtyard will be carried out by Helsingin Studiopalvelut, which has collaborated with the Helsinki City Museum since 2018. The event is part of the Unknown Suburb exhibition programme.
