VÄKEÄ procession: Figures from Finnish mythology come to life
Event Introduction
In Finnish mythology and folklore, “väki” refers to supernatural beings associated with a particular element, place or phenomenon, or to the supernatural power they embody.
This event brings these many and varied beings into the streets. Spirits of nature, trolls, ancestral beings and other mythical creatures emerge from the night of ancient tales and wander among us in a mysterious procession.
Come and experience the first pilot parade by the VÄKEÄ group, bringing Finnish folklore to life. You can also join a mask-making workshop at the event and take part in the parade wearing a mask of your own creation.
Children are welcome to participate in the parade (age limit 7+, children under 12 must be accompanied by a guardian). Please note, however, that some of the costumes may appear a little scary to younger children.
We will also be filming and photographing the parade for promotional purposes. If you would like to participate but do not wish to be photographed or filmed, please follow the instructions provided at the workshop. We will not photograph or film participants under the age of 18.
Duration: approximately 15–20 minutes.
PLEASE NOTE: Weather permitting. The event will be cancelled in case of heavy rain.
