Laura Elo: The Shades of Silence – a pop-up photography exhibition
Event Introduction
In the Shades of Silence is an outdoor pop-up photography exhibition in the heart of Vanha kirkkopuisto during Helsinki’s Night of the Arts on 20 August 2026, from 17:00 to 23:00.
The exhibition presents a selection of atmospheric photographic works that explore quiet moments in nature, the layered character of cities, humanity, and presence across different parts of the world. The works are created by Helsinki-based photographer and spatial designer Laura Elo.
Displayed in a covered yet open 3 × 3 metre tent, the works form a calm oasis in the middle of the park. Frozen moments in time, delicate observations of natural and urban environments, and images captured over the years around the world invite passers-by to pause and linger for a moment.
The exhibition is designed as an accessible meeting point in public space, where visitors can engage with the works, meet the artist, and, if they wish, purchase fine art prints and small photographic works.
The event is free of charge and open to everyone.

The pop-up photography exhibition will be set up in a covered 3×3 m tent, providing shelter from the weather.
The space is open and built on ground in the Old Church Park. There are no steps or thresholds. The exhibition can be accessed directly from the park. The tent may be open on all sides or partially opened to provide an unobstructed view of the works from outside. The space has been designed for easy access and as part of the park environment. -
