“Maailma on loppunut jo niin monta kertaa” -näyttely
Event Introduction
“The World Has Already Ended So Many Times” exhibition takes viewers back six years to a time when the world came to a standstill and felt as if it were ending. In the context of the summer of 2020, a time overshadowed by the pandemic, fear, and isolation, the idea of togetherness becomes something controversial, almost forbidden. Yet, in the forests and shores of Helsinki, a new kind of urban culture and space emerged. Organized by collectives, communities, and groups of friends, informal underground raves momentarily brought people together in a way that went beyond what was accepted or permitted, yet created a safe, undefined community.
Recreating a piece of the free, undefined urban space of summer 2020, the exhibition reflects on a collective memory of a world that doesn’t exist. Drawing on moments when the freedom and courage to live again were rediscovered, it observes the role, significance, and place of community in a time that is unstable and unpredictable. Simultaneously, the exhibition conceptualizes utopia as not merely imagined, but a possibility glimmering through society’s normative structures.
“The World Has Ended So Many Times” is created by KENEN? collective – a multidisciplinary and constantly evolving collective of creatives exploring belonging, ownership, and agency in art and society. In the exhibition, textile art, photography, moving image, and literary expression organically form a balanced, layered experience that presents human connection as a freedom that is claimed, with or without permission.
