MAR/MÆR Camouflage Strategies Exhibition
Event Introduction
MAR / MÆR
CAMOUFLAGE STRATEGIES Film screening exhibition
Since 2017, MAR/MÆR have explored Camouflage Strategies through performance actions in public spaces. The first work was created by the Lapeyrouse Cemetery wall in Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago Carnival, while the most recent took place in Søndermarken in Copenhagen in collaboration with oak trees, lichen, and BLOOM Festival. A video exhibition at the SOLU Bioart Society presents documentation of the processes of the performance works.
The Camouflage performance series began from a desire to disappear fully, melt into the surroundings and become one with the site. By borrowing strategy from animal life we research camouflaging as an aim to transcend the borders between bodies and the space. Simultaneously, experience and perception of space becomes destabilized.
Our current research lies with lichen as reaching out to being-with, thinking-with and performing-with an organism for further learnings on complications of symbiosis.
MAR/MÆR is a performance art duo formed by Mari Pitkänen and Kaja Mærk Egeberg.
Supported by: Arts Council Norway, Government Grants for Artists (Norway), Taiteen edistämiskeskus, Helsingin kaupunki
