The Venetian festivities are, in the Nordic countries, a celebration of water, fire, and light; the final glow of summer before the arrival of darkness. Reflections on the water, fireworks in the night, a gesture of gratitude and remembrance for the beauty of summer that we have only been allowed to enjoy for a fleeting moment. At the same time, autumn is welcomed in.

The programme brings together voices from across four centuries: Isabella Leonarda, one of the earliest published women composers in history; contemporary American composer and violist Jessica Meyer, whose music combines physical intensity with poetic immediacy, and Bulgarian-British composer Dobrinka Tabakova, known for her luminous and deeply atmospheric soundworlds.

The evening culminates in George Enescu’s iconic String Octet; A monumental masterpiece written when the composer was only nineteen, and one of the most visionary and demanding works ever written for strings. In this performance, the music rises from the surface of water into flame: from reflection into radiance, from intimacy into eruption.

How to listen:
The music spans over 300 years, but the emotional journey remains the same. Some pieces may feel immediate and familiar; others may sound strange, fragile, or unexpected. There is no right way to listen.
You do not need to know anything about classical music to enter this world.
Simply follow the sound, the silence, and the changing elements and allow the music to carry you from light into darkness, and from the surface of water into flame.
