What does the Kalevala feel like when sung as an AI translation?

Event Introduction

What does the Kalevala feel like when sung as an AI translation? What is the emotional resonance of an AI translation of the Kalevala into German?

The Kalevala is based on a runic vocal tradition dating back thousands of years. When sung, something resonates with the singer, evoking a variety of images even today. But is that same resonance conveyed by an AI translation of the text into German? This musical lecture will offer a new perspective on translation studies and the Kalevala.

Members of the audience will also be able to try singing and to see how the same verse resonates with them in different languages. Science, song and the Kalevala – all in one evening.
