Event Introduction

This Night of the Arts, giant giraffes take over the streets of Helsinki!

The astonishing animal operetta Les Girafes by the French theatre group Compagnie Off is a monumental street performance in the form of a parade, combining masterful giant puppetry, circus, burlesque, and opera.

Suitable for all ages, this work whisks the audience away on a sensory journey through the dreamlike story of the giraffes. Join the joyous parade through the city center streets as these magenta giants bring the urban space to life! The spectacle is crowned by powerful music and high-energy circus arts, both on the ground and in the air.

The parade will set off from the intersection of Keskuskatu and Pohjoisesplanadi at around 7:00 p.m. and proceed along Pohjoisesplanadi, turning from Unioninkatu onto Senaatintori, where the show’s grand finale will take place (approx. 10 min). After the performance, the giraffes will stay for a moment to greet the audience.

Senate Square offers the best spots to watch the performance more comfortably, for example with a stroller; Pohjoisesplanadi may become crowded.

The performance occasionally features loud sound effects. Bringing pets is not recommended.
