In 1995, Helsinki Festival made a bold decision. Finland was emerging from a deep recession, opening its doors to Europe, and the hunger for culture was immense. Helsinki needed a venue where big and new ideas could meet their audience – thus, Huvila was born. An intimate yet ambitious concert arena, nestled in the Tokoinranta park in Kallio, became a home for unforgettable musical moments.

For three decades, Huvila has been a stage for extraordinary experiences, where both international and Finnish stars have enchanted audiences. When Radiohead and Massive Attack performed at Huvila during their early careers, it was clear that something significant was happening. Today, these bands are among the most acclaimed in the world – and Huvila remains part of their journey.

Countless global artists have fallen in love with Huvila, its atmosphere, acoustics, and audience. For many musicians, it has become one of their most memorable venues, a place where music truly transforms into an experience.

Huvila has also been the backdrop for some of Finnish music’s greatest moments. From legendary local artists to rising stars building international careers, the stage has witnessed history in the making. What happens at Huvila lives on in the memories of the audience – and often becomes a permanent part of Finnish music history.

On Sunday, August 24th, this iconic venue will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a unique, once-in-a-lifetime concert. The stage will be graced by some of Finland’s top artists: Mirella, Pepe Willberg, Arppa, Emilia Sisco, and Hassan Maikal, who, together with Risto Niinikoski’s anniversary band, featuring a full brass section and strings, will make the evening truly unforgettable.

The concert will feature fresh interpretations of songs that have been performed at Huvila over the past three decades, paying tribute to the venue’s rich history. Mirella, Arppa, Pepe Willberg, Hassan Maikal, and Emilia Sisco will showcase not only the legacy of Huvila but also the present and future of Finnish music through their own work.

Huvila’s anniversary concert is a grand celebration of live music, reminding us of the importance of art, culture, and shared experiences in an ever-changing world.

The anniversary band is led by Risto Niinikoski, one of Finland’s most sought-after drummers, whose work has been featured in TV shows such as Vain elämää, Tähdet, tähdet, and SuomiLOVE, as well as on countless albums and major stages.

The concert is curated and hosted by Karri “Paleface” Miettinen, whose deep knowledge of Finnish music and Huvila’s history ensures that the evening is not just a nostalgic look back but a vibrant, living, and relevant musical experience.

As with all of Huvila’s most legendary nights, the anniversary concert will include an intermission, creating space for reflection before the second half of the evening unfolds.
