Event Introduction

Angélique Kidjo, who has already thrilled the Helsinki Festival audience twice and sold out Huvila in 2022, will now make a spectacular return to Helsinki. The West African music star and five-time Grammy winner will celebrate her 40-year career at Huvila on Thursday 29 August.

Loved around the world, Kidjo has established herself as one of the most unique and extraordinary voices of our time, inspiring countless artists and audiences over the decades. In Kidjo’s hands, West African traditional music and pop meet the sounds of afrobeat, dancehall, hip-hop and r&b in a hypnotic and visionary way. 

Since 2021’s Mother Nature album, Kidjo has toured extensively and collaborated with French-Lebanese trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf on the acclaimed album Queen of Sheba, a fusion of African and Middle Eastern cultures. At Huvila, Kidjo performs music from throughout her career – but the charismatic performer at her best always has her eyes on the future. With her boundless creative energy, Kidjo’s music continues to touch new generations and her concerts are a celebration of endless joy and rhythm.

F, known for their bold and visually inventive live performances, will open the night. A versatile artist who creates strong albums, F has been nominated for several Emma awards and in 2021 was awarded the Music Video of the Year prize.
